Songs of the Delmore Brothers

The Delmore Brothers were one of the great brother singing duos, recording from the 1930’s through the 1950's. They sang original, well-crafted songs, and sang them in a soft, close, synchronized harmony style. They influenced generations of country performers, including the Louvin Brothers, Doc Watson, Everly Brothers, Bob Dylan and others.
In the workshop, you'll learn to sing some of their duets and also get a glimpse into the era when southern music moved from the home to the stage, radio, and victrola.
All are welcome - no singing experience needed.
Your Workshop Leaders
Christian Apuzzo is a Brooklyn-based vocalist, guitarist, and music educator originally from Long Island. After beginning his career as a certified public school music teacher, Christian ventured into the dynamic world of freelance music in NYC. Specializing in folk, bluegrass, and country, he performs with several groups across the five boroughs, including Cole Quest and the City Pickers and The Grass Messengers. In addition to his performances, Christian is passionate about teaching and offers music lessons and classes for all ages at Jalopy Theatre in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
Phyllis Elkind is a singer and guitar player splitting her time between New York City and the Hudson Valley. She currently performs in The Sentimentals, a bluegrass trio, and in Bill and Phyl, a duo that explores pop, bluegrass, and country harmony. Phyllis plays in the bluegrass jam scene, wherever she is! In NYC, she is a regular in the Thompson Street Medicine Show and at Mona’s Monday Bluegrass Session; upstate, she is part of the Hudson Valley Bluegrass Association. A long-time teacher, in addition to classes and workshops at Jalopy, Phyllis has taught Doo Wop at the McBurney YMCA, and currently leads harmony workshops in the Hudson Valley.
